On 25 January, the Minister for Equality between Women and Men, Taina Bofferding, and the Secretary General of the Fonds nationale de la recherche (FNR), official representative of Research Luxembourg, Marc Schiltz, signed an agreement for the second edition of the awareness-raising campaign "Women and Girls in Research", implemented by Research Luxembourg and supported by the Ministry for Equality between Women and Men (MEGA).
The campaign aims to encourage girls and women to engage in research and science to ensure a diverse and inclusive approach. In order to break down gender stereotypes associated with scientific and technical careers, a series of video testimonials has been produced, highlighting the diversity of Research Luxembourg's member organisations. Each video tells the story of a female scientist working in one of Luxembourg's research organisations, the path she chose and why, and her message to young girls interested in science.
For this second edition, Dimitra Anastasiou (LIST), Anne-Marie Hanff (LIH), Sallam Abualhaija (UL), Inmaculada Peral Alonso (UL), Thuc Uyen Nguyen-Thi (LISER) and Cindy Lopes Bento (FNR) were recruited as participants.
The Minister of Equality between Women and Men, Taina Bofferding, said: "I am delighted that we can once again work together with Research Luxembourg and the FNR to promote the importance of gender equality in science! This new collaboration is to be welcomed not only for the sustainability of the partnership, but also to send a clear signal that science is not an exclusively male domain. I am convinced, especially in the context of the International Day for Women and Girls in Science, that such female role models will play an important role in the future gender mix in all areas of science. Science cannot be modern without equal opportunities!"
That is why the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11 February 2023) is the perfect time to launch this new campaign and spread the message that science and gender equality go hand in hand!
The video testimonials will be published on https://www.researchluxembourg.org/en/ and on the social networks of Research Luxembourg and MEGA!
